PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK “BATTLE FOR IRPIN”

On January 26, 2023, the book “Battle for Irpin” by Petro Shcherbyna was presented at the Kyiv History Museum. This is a joint project of the author, Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the publishing house “Summit-Book”.

The mayor of Irpin Oleksandr Markushyn notes that “Battle for Irpin” is the first Ukrainian chronology of the heroic struggle of Irpin residents for their city in February-March 2022.

“At that time the small city didn’t let the enemy to the capital of Ukraine – Kyiv. Unfortunately, at the cost of the lives of 39 defenders – Territorial Defence soldiers of Irpin and Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel. And this book is a sign of respect for their feat. Turning the pages of the book “Battle for Irpin”, the reader moves into the events of spring last year – from battles at the block posts to evacuation of the civilian population by the “Road of Life” under the bridge in Romanivka,” – said the mayor of Irpin.

Oleksandr Markushyn also said that since the first days of the war the author of the book Petro Shcherbyna, as a volunteer, headed the direction of humanitarian aid for the city and coordinated interaction with the European and American media, which were preparing their reports from the battlefield in Irpin.

“After the de-occupation, Petro Shcherbyna, together with me and the head of the Investment Council of Irpin Volodymyr Karpliuk, daily looked for opportunities to attract international resources for the restoration of Irpin. And now he continues to do it”, – Markushyn shared.

The mayor of Irpin also noted that the book “Battle for Irpin” will definitely appear in the city library, the Irpin museum and in the libraries of educational institutions of the community.
